Burkhard Dahmen appointed new President of METEC 2019
The new President of METEC, the International Metallurgy Trade Fair and Congress, taking place from 25 to 29 June 2019, is Burkhard Dahmen, Chairman of the Management Board of SMS group GmbH. The Düsseldorf native was appointed to this post at today’s executive committee meeting of the trade fair quartet comprising GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST. This appointment was necessary following the departure of the former METEC President, Guido Kleinschmidt, from the SMS group. “In view of the dramatic upheavals in our sector, this year’s METEC will take on a special, forward-looking industry focus. Megatrends such as digitalisation, Industry 4.0, additive manufacturing and the careful use of resources have been shaping discussions day in, day out for several years now amongst steel producers, steel processors and their suppliers,” says Burkhard Dahmen, summing up the current challenges.
The “Bright World of Metals” is shining with first-class registration figures: Around 2,100 exhibitors from all over the world will be showcasing their products from 25 to 29 June at the leading international trade fairs for foundry and metallurgical technology: GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST. Across twelve exhibition halls, exhibitors will showcase the entire spectrum of foundry technology, cast products, metallurgy and thermal process technology. The list of participating nations spans the globe, ranging from ‘A’ for Australia to ‘V’ for the United Arab Emirates. Trade visitors from the worlds of business, research, development and academia cannot gain such a comprehensive overview of the industry at any other trade fair worldwide. Accordingly, the international reach of this quartet of trade fairs will be just as extensive this year. More than half of the expected 78,000 trade visitors traditionally travel from overseas and Europe to Düsseldorf, the world capital of the ‘Bright World of Metals’.
