The cold rolling mill is intended for the production of silicon steel products.
Primatals was awarded the contract by an unnamed steel producer in the Chinese province of Hebei to supply a continuous tandem cold rolling mill for the production of silicon steel products.
In addition to plant design and supply, the plant manufacturer is responsible for automation and consultancy services for the installation. According to the plant manufacturer, the new plant will enable the customer to produce high-quality silicon steel products and strengthen its product portfolio.
The so-called Hyper UCM utilises adjustable work rolls and an optimised combination of work roll and intermediate roll diameters. This technology enables the use of adjustable work rolls with a smaller diameter, which allows for the rolling of very thin strips. In addition, the lubrication system allows for higher reduction ratios than conventional cold rolling mills. According to Primetals, the plant is therefore able to process higher-strength materials into thinner strips, ensuring higher product quality whilst simultaneously increasing plant productivity.
Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2027.
